Kinvarra for Starters

Up on our first truly full day. We slept in just a bit more than we plan to the rest of the trip. Hey, almost 24 straight hours of travel will do that. I’m sitting here with a cup of tea and Dock Boggs crooning from the bluetooth speaker while contemplating the first night in Kinvarra.

And the other half.

We’re staying in the coolest little thatched roof cottage right on the main road into town. This is our first time using airbnb.com and I am not sure we could be happier. Our wonderful hostess Liadain left a fresh loaf of bread, eggs, milk, granola, tea, and coffee. She has books a plenty and wonderful art everywhere.

Dunguaire Castle from our room
The view of Dunguaire Castle.

From our cottage it’s just a short walk to Dunguaire Castle in one direction and town in the other. I’m not quite sure how long I’d need to be here for the sight of a castle to seem normal. We’ve already been to explore, though you cannot get into the courtyard for another few weeks. They apparently have medieval style banquets inside during full on tourist season. That would be something.

Dunguaire Castle is a 16th-century tower house on the southeastern shore of Galway Bay in County Galway, Ireland.

(Editor’s Note: this post is a day late. We had some technical difficulties and also we’re on vacation.. plus the pub and stuff.)
